Glasgow Caledonian University and its partner, the National Health Service Scotland (NHSS), will undertake a year-long sampling of waste waters arising from healthcare facilities in Scotland. The concentration of pharmaceutical micro-pollutants in this water will be analysed and compared with known background levels of such pollutants in ‘ordinary´ sewage in order to qualify the relative contribution of healthcare installations to the overall emission in Scotland.

Information from this activity will be shared with policy makers, regulators and water companies, as well as being distributed to healthcare facilities managers via the NHSS´ Healthcare Facilities Scotland forum.
