PILLS symposia `pharmaceuticals in water` on 06-11-2009
On 6th of November 2009, a symposium was organized for interested regional partners in the Emscher catchment about the PILLS project. Here the problem and possible solutions on `pharmaceuticals in water´ were discussed between the Emschergenossenschaft, politics, scientific experts, public bodies, industry and representatives of regional hospitals.
In November 2009 the preparatory field work for the PILLS treatment facility at Marienhospital Gelsenkirchen started, too. Therefore the symposium took place close to the hospital. The Minister for Environment of North Rhine Westphalia, Eckhard Uhlenberg, was present and opened the construction site symbolically.
Minister Uhlenberg took the chance to visit on this day additionally treatment facilities of the Lippeverband, a `sister water board´ of the Emschergenossenschaft. In Bad Sassendorf and Hünxe actually two innovative treatment techniques were installed (membrane, ozone) to eliminate micropollutants, too. Emschergenossenschaft and Lippeverband expect new findings about cost-benefit-relationship of advanced measures in conventional treatment plants.
